Sydney

Working in the community

sunny 28 °C

Hi StokesWood
I have spent a long time in Sydney (the biggest city in Australia). Here I have seen the famous Opera house and harbour bridge, I have sent a picture of them for you all to see. I spoke to your teacher the other day and she told me that you were all looking at people who work in the community. Like England we have police men and fire men working to look after the people here in Australia, however we also have lifeguards on every beach. Although we have lifeguards during the summer time on a few beaches in Britain, the lifeguards here in Australia are very different! First they wear a certain outfit which you can see in the photo. They have to be very fit and healthy; they train everyday to make sure they can run along the long sand beaches, and be able to swim against the strong current of the ocean. The Ocean here has alot more waves so can be a very dangerous place, it also has animals which could hurt a person such as a shark, sea snake or jellyfish. Lifeguards here have to be fully aware of what every person is doing on the beach, they need to make sure swimmers are between the safe flags they have put up and surfers are safe out of the swimmers area. To become a lifeguard you have to be a very fast runner and be able to swim really well, could any of you be a good lifeguard???

Hay Stokeswood
I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and are back at school ready to learn new and interesting facts!
I have been very busy myself, slowly travelling around Australia. Since I last spoke to you I have been to a town called Hervey Bay, there I went to a shark museum. It was like going on a school trip as I learnt lots of cool and interesting facts about Sharks.... Did you know the largest ever shark on record is 25 foot long, that is as big as your classroom plus more! WOW! I was really lucky to see an actually frozen great white shark too, if you look at the picture you can see how big and scary looking they are!
I have also travelled to a town called Noosa, here they have lovely coastal walks with lots of exciting animals to see. My favourite was a koala which you can see in the pictures. I have seen some strange and different animals out here alot of them are quite dangerous so i have stayed away from them, these are animals such as snakes and spiders.
I am really enjoying and learning alot out here in Australia, I hope you are learning new facts about Australia from my emails! My next place to visit is the famous Sydney so i shall tell you all about this city in my next email.

Mission beach, Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays!!

Queensland

sunny 28 °C

Hello StokesWood!
I have been very busy since i last spoke to you!!! I have headed south of Australia on a bus called the Greyhound! This bus allows me to travel all over Australia. My first stop of the bus was a place called Mission Beach. This is a very quiet place, but has the most beautiful four mile long beach. Unfortunatly i was unable to swim in the sea as there are dangerous jelly fish swimming there at the moment, these jelly fish are called Box jelly fish, with one sting they can really hurt you and put you in hospital. To help with the pain of the sting they leave Vinegar on the beach! Whilst i was in Mission Beach i had kangaroo for dinner, it was very nice!
My next stop of the bus was a place called Airlie Beach, there is a lovely harbour here where i got my boat to travel the Whitsundays! I travelled for three days and three nights on a very large sailing yacht called the Anaconda. Here i went to see some amazing islands with white sand and clear blue sea, they were beautiful. I also went out to the Great Barrier Reef again where I was so lucky to bump into my dad Crush, he was very happy to see me! I also saw Bruce, but he was very busy so i didnt stop to speak to him. I really enjoyed the Whitsundays and sailing for three days, it is a very beautiful place. I am heading down on the bus to Magnetic Island tomorrow so i shall tell you all about it very shortly!
It is 28 degrees over here, i heard it is very cold in England. I hope you are all wrapping up warm!
Speak to you soon love Squirt x x

Hello Stokes Wood!

Since i last spoke to you i have travelled on a plane another 15 hours to Australia!
My first stop was in a town called Cairns. Whilst i was there i went on a trip on a boat to the great barrier reef! The great barrier reef is the biggest reef in the world, it is made up of over two thousand reefs! I was lucky enough to be able to scuba dive and snokel the reef! Whilst scuba diving the reef i was happy to bump into my friends Nemo and his dad Marlin as well as meeting up with Dori! I unfortunatly didnt bump into Bruce and his friends but theres always next time.
I have also travelled north of Cairns to the oldest rainforest in the world, DainTree Rainforest! There i got to see wild crocodiles and a big spider called a golden orb! (maybe your teacher could show you a picture of one)
I am going to start travelling down south of Australia now on a bus. My next stops are Mission beach, Magnetic Island and Airlie beach where i will be seeing the Whitsundays!
Where i am it is very hot! In Australia it is their summer whilst at home in England it is your winter!
I will speak to you soon and tell you all about these places!

Hello Stokes Wood Squirt here!

I have had a very long journey on a plane to a small country called Singapore!
Singapre is a very very warm country, it is on the equator. I stayed in a place called China Town, everyone here has been really nice and helpful. I have been eating mainly noodles and rice but not using a knife and fork but using chop sticks. When not in China Town i have been relaxing on a man made beach called Sentosa and swimming in the Indian Ocean.
I will be flying over to Cairns in Australia very soon so will speak to you all then!
hope your all working really hard and i will look forward to hearing from you.
